It's Spring in England, and it still feels like Winter. As two sun-hungry South Africans living in rain country, we escaped to Greece for three days. Our short trip indicates our desperation for travel and Summer sun. We booked an all inclusive EasyJet Holiday package and packed our bags for Greece. This was our first trip to the land of Mamma Mia, and we decided on Rhodos, as it was the cheapest Greek holiday option on the EasyJet website. According to the locals, Rhodos is 5/6 times cheaper than Mykonos!
Our experience of Rhodos, was phenominal. We enjoyed ourselves so thoroughly that we already started dreaming of a holiday home here! A little house of sandstone, Bougainvillea, old blue shutters, olive trees facing the ocean... I'm getting carried away. Back to our trip. Greece from my view was Bougainvilliea of pink and red, the ancient Old Town that reminded me of Biblical times, electric night life, crystal clear waters, and jaw dropping scenery while sailing. Our highlight was a three hour boat cruise with Faliraki Fun Club. Drinks, vibey music, spectacular views and the top snorkeling experience of our young lives thus far. The boat stopped at three stunning destinations where we swam in Bahama-esque waters, and even explored an ancient cave, with sunlight streaming through the top. Being the extroverts that we are, we made friends with the host - Mikelinio. For the life of me, I couldn't pronounce it in Greek, so I just called him Michelangelo.
That night we met up with him again at a kareoke pub in Faliraki. We made more friends and ended up in a pub from the stone age - Mambo's. Here, the music was too good and we had too much fun. The next morning, hungover and happy, we fell helplessly inlove with Greece. To top it all off, I enjoyed the best seafood of my life - the Stuffed Calamari at Restaurant Peskesi. Traveling is a highly personal experience and people have different tastes and preferences when it comes to a holiday. What Ernst and I like about Rhodos, is the fact that it feels small and kind of rural, yet effortlessly beautiful. The people we met were so friendly, warm and offered top hospitality. The beaches are exquisite and the food is healthy, delicious and fresh. I personally love all the picturesque little spots scattered across the island - perfect for my fashion content!
We stayed at the Lux Me Dama Dama resort hotel. This all inclusive package worked well for us, as we just had a short stay. This is also a good option to keep you within your budget. However, I am not a fan of lots of people, large buffet meals, big spaces and commercial hotel vibes. Therefore, next time we will aim for a little, local airbnb, in order to get an authentic Greek experience. A wave of depression hit us, as we realised we had to leave. For a moment, we wanted to stay there and continue our love affair with Greece forever - just the three of us. But, adulting has that irritating way of waking you out your dreams like a bucket of ice cold water, doesn't it?
Efharisto (σ ευχαριστώ) Greece, we must leave. But we will return to you.
Love,
Amor
